The £50 million flop ran around like a headless chicken for 81 minutes, when he was finally brought off and replaced Ba, who should be the man to lead us for the rest of the season.
But now Benitez has accused Fernando Torres’ statistics-obsessed critics of being clueless after the striker’s dry January continued against Arsenal.
As quoted in the London Evening Standard he said: “Fernando was doing a great job. Demba gave us something we didn’t have before.
“These people who like to quote stats and stats; they don’t have any clue about what is going on.
“When you have one striker for a month and a half and cannot change, it’s more difficult for the striker
“When you have now two strikers, you can manage.”
Torres did find his feet for a few games when Benitez cm in and managed to score a few goals, but to go seven games without scoring in a team that is full of world class players is almost unbelievable. I mean how he is able to do that?
We have given Torres a lot of our time and he has continually let us down on a weekly basis, Benitez shouldn’t be defending a striker that is paid to find the back of the net and cant.
Torres has lost belief in his ability and he has nothing more to give us, so although it’s sad to see such a great player fall from grace so dramatically. His time here is up.
