Chelsea are finally set to cut all ties with the Spanish international, who has struggled for top form and goals since arriving from Liverpool in a deal worth £50million and a return to Atletico could be on the cards.
Atletico would be happy to take Torres back, despite his struggles, but whether they would be willing to swap him for Falcao remains to be seen as the South American has impressed during his time in Madrid.
A Spanish source has been quoted as saying: "Despite all his problems at Chelsea, Torres is still held in great affection at Atletico and he would be welcomed back."
Falcao is reported to have a £46million release clause in his contract and Chelsea hope to use Torres as a makeweight to push a deal through when the window re-opens.
Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also keen on Falcao but using Torres as a sweetener could win the day for Chelsea.
