Chelsea "B-team" Wins

Swindon (4-2-3-1): Foderingham; Thompson, Hall, Ward (c), McEveley; Kasim, Luongo; N’Guessan, Pritchard, Ajose (Elgabas 72); Ranger (Thompson h-t)

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Schwarzer; Azpilicueta, Cahill, David Luiz, Bertrand; Essien (c), Van Ginkel (Ramires 9 (Terry h-t)); Willian, Mata, De Bruyne (Ba 77); Torres

Goals: Torres 28, Ramires 34

Chelsea had some opportunities over the 90 minutes to increase their lead, but poor judgement and finishing cost Mourinho’s B team. It was a B team that cost more than £180 million, but there were only sparse reminders of that fact during the 90 minutes.

There needs to be a lot of improvement if this is the sort of performance they can put in against a third division opponent. Of course, there were some good performances from some of the players especially Juan Mata. Michael Essien, who captained the team for the first time, was inspirational and showed flashes of the old ‘Bison’.

The only sore points from the match were the injuries to Marco van Ginkel and Ramires.
