Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is set to hold talks with Spanish star Fernando Torres about his future at the club, before deciding whether to sell him on this summer, the Express has reported.
Despite Torres saying he is excited about working under the Portuguese manager, Chelsea have been linked with several strikers this summer and it has led people to believe Torres may be shown the door by Mourinho.
And with Napoli and Barcelona interested in the Spanish international, Torres is seemingly ever more likely to leave.
However, The Special One wants to discuss the 29 year olds future in person, to see if the striker has a future at Stamford Bridge.
Mourinho’s Meetings
But Torres isn’t the only player to have been asked to have a meeting with his new manager when they return from international duty or their holiday, with centre backs David Luiz and captain John Terry set for talks with the boss.
Torres is currently away with the Spain squad to play in the upcoming Confederations Cup, along with Luiz who is with Brazil.
Since joining from Liverpool in 2011 for £50m, the striker has largely struggled with Chelsea, and despite showing a decent run of form at the end of last season, it is believed Mourinho will look for other options for next season rather than trying to find that elusive consistency from Torres.
Other options
Mourinho and Chelsea have lined up some big name striking options this summer, including Napoli forward Edinson Cavani, and the Blues may offer money as well as Torres to potentially sign the Uruguayan.
Other targets for the 50 year old manager include Fiorentina striker Stevan Jovetic, as well one of the heroes from the Champions League last season, Borussia Dortmund’s Robert Lewandowski.
And if Chelsea do bring in one or two of these players, and Demba Ba likely to stay, it seems only logical Torres will be told to leave.
Chelsea’s interim boss last year Rafa Benitez seems very keen on bringing Torres to his new club Napoli, while Barcelona have been reported as interested in making a potential £17m bid, but after the big money signing of Neymar many think the side won’t have the funds to spend on another forward.
Either way, the talks between Mourinho and Torres will perhaps clear up the situation, but at this point in time, it seems the Portuguese manager will be willing to look at any offers for the misfiring Spaniard.
