Samuel Eto’o. Joins Chelsea

Chelsea continued their summer spending this afternoon with the completion of signing another player from Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala. After several years of heavy investment, the Russian club is looking to change direction and have allowed almost all of their biggest stars to leave. The Blues already snapped up 25-year-old Brazilian playmaker, Willian earlier this week and now have just inked a one-year deal with former Barcelona and Inter Milan star forward, Samuel Eto’o. Having played under Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan, the 32-year-old Cameroonian international already knows how his manager deals with players and everyday life at the club and stated he was it was an easy decision to move according to Chelsea’s official website according to Goal.com:

“It wasn't a hard decision. I saw the qualities Chelsea have, and I was very happy with Jose Mourinho before, so when the opportunity came, I was very happy to take it.”

The arrival of the former Serie A star forward that scored 53 goals in 102 appearances for Inter Milan, now presents Mourinho with the question of what to do with all of his forwards. Fernando Torres is unlikely to be sold and Romelu Lukaku is too promising to let go leaving Demba Ba potentially set for an early Stamford Bridge exit despite only joining the club in January. Newcastle United have been rumored to be willing to purchase Ba back, but there is heavy doubt that Magpies’ owner Mike Ashley would be willing to pay Ba the kind of wages he has been receiving at Chelsea. There is also disbelief that the fans would take him back into their good graces after his apparent lack of respect for the northern club before his departure. Chelsea now have added some veteran depth to their attacking line, but there are still many questions for Mourinho to answer in the coming months and most all of them can only be answer with results that see three points added to the tally at the far right section of the Blues’ place in the table.
