Please Listen His Words... RAFA

Mark Bosnich has told Rafa Benitez to forget about building his Chelsea team around Fernando Torres and instead put his trust in Eden Hazard, Oscar and Juan Mata.

Benitez oversaw a second successive goalless draw on Wednesday night as the Blues were held at home by Fulham and has since come in for criticism over his team selection, having left the in-form Mata out of his starting line-up.

And Bosnich has warned the new Blues boss he has little chance of launching a challenge for the Premier League title if he becomes too focused on getting Torres firing rather than harnessing the creative talents of Mata, Hazard and Oscar.

“I think Rafa Benitez is looking for a bit more defensive solidity but I wouldn’t have left out a player ["Mata"] who has been among Chelsea’s best for the last season and a half or so. It does stem their creativity,” said the club’s former goalkeeper, speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show.

“I know he has had a great relationship in the past with Fernandes Torres and we all know about Torres’ struggles since he came to Chelsea.

"We know his brief includes trying to get him firing but he had better not try and concentrate on that too much because, if he is focused around whether or not the goalscorer is scoring all the time, it can become a little predictable to defend against.

“The three most creative players in that team are Juan Mata, Eden Hazard and Oscar and they have got to be used more creatively than they have been in the last two games if Chelsea are to make a sustained bid for the championship.”
