Chelsea and Arsenal could be on the verge of an absolutely stunning agreement: Blues goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois could move on loan to the Emirates Stadium next season.
According to Football Espana, the Blues want their promising young Belgian goalkeeper to learn his trade in England’s top flight, after two brilliant seasons with Atletico Madrid in La Liga.
Hailed as the best goalkeeper from Belgium since the legendary Michel Preud’homme, Courtois has also been widely praised as the best goalkeeper in Spain outside Iker Casillas and Victor Valdes – which is no mean feat given that he is just 20 years of age.
However, current Chelsea custodian Petr Cech shows no sign of being ready to give up his number one shirt, and after two years of regular first team football, Courtois is unlikely to want to sit on the bench at Stamford Bridge.
It is these factors that have led Chelsea to want to send Courtois on loan in England, and ideally to a London club so that they can keep a close eye on him.
Arsene Wenger has shown a huge amount of faith in Wojciech Szczesny, but repeated clangers from almost every goalkeeper to played at Arsenal since David Seaman have become the norm.
