Chelsea after Benfica defender

United have long been linked with a move for the Argentina star but the Portuguese press is now reporting that Chelsea are also keen to do a deal in the summer.

Chelsea have good relations with Benfica after snapping up David Luiz back in 2011 and the rumour mill suggests they hope to do business with them again in the close season.

The 26-year-old central defender has a contract with Benfica until 2015 but that will not stop a deal going through as long as the two clubs can agree on a fee.

Chelsea are well blessed in central defence with Luiz, Gary Cahill and John Terry all on the books but with the latter struggling with injuries this season, the Blues recognise it is a position that needs another body.
