Mata Explains His Situation at Chelsa

Juan Mata has been out of the Chelsea squad for the past few weeks, only to increase speculation about his future, but the player himself suggests that it is a quadricep injury that is keeping the wideman out of action in the initial part of the Barclays Premier League campaign.

Chelsea have been heavily involved in transfer activity over the past few months, and new manager Jose Mourinho is leaving no stone unturned to ensure the side win a title this season in the Barclays Premier League. The Portuguese boss has strengthened his squad

The Blues were linked to Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney, who was unsettled at Old Trafford due to the friction between him and new manager David Moyes. Reports had suggested at the time that United were only willing to discuss a deal if Chelsea decided to include one of their players in a sensational swap deal that could see one of Chelsea’s best players make way for Rooney. The two players linked as the swap players were David Luiz and Mata, both of whom were praised for consistency in performances last season. The signing of Willian also cast a shadow over Mata’s future, as the Brazilian attacking midfielder from Anzhi Makhachkala would provide enough firepower to assist in the attacking front.

Mata’s initial years at Stamford Bridge have been successful winning a couple of European trophies, and the Spaniard has won the club’s player of the year over the past two seasons, answering his critics in the most appropriate form. His combination play with Eden Hazard makes them seen as a dangerous duo in the Premier League, and players to watch out for the opposition manager.

This season is very important for the Spaniard to be considered in the national side for next year’s FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The Spanish side is full of established stars, and another consistent season at Chelsea is exactly what Mata needs to get back into contention for the first team of the national side.

According to the Metro, Mata has confirmed that his absence from the squad has been due to an injury.

He said, “After a few days [of pre-season] and a couple of games I felt a bit of pain on my quadriceps and I had to slow down. It was something new for me because I had never had these kind of problems, but I kept calm; it was (it is) still the beginning of the season. That’s why the first weeks of training were a bit tricky for me.”
